Soprano ukulele with TruValue yardstick back, sides, and head veneer, 70-year-old vertical grain fir top (wood salvaged from the gym bleachers in the demolished Linwood School near my studio), poplar neck, Peghead planetary geared tuners.
This adorable little uke was built from TruValue yardsticks and ancient gymnasium bleachers was a big hit at Sam Rosen’s Holualoa ‘Ukulele Gallery. Sam was so kind to show me his Hawaii-makers-only gallery and the shop where he teaches ukulele workshops. The video is of a local player (I never really caught his name), but he and Sam and the several other makers who visited while I was there all admired this little TruValue uke.
