UKU-T-27 (Kyoto commission)

  • by

Cutaway tenor ukulele of roasted maple (sides, back, neck) and curly Port Orford cedar top. Ebony and roasted maple bridge and fret board, Rubner tuning machines, bone nut and saddle.

This was a commission from my good friend, Takamasa Morita, a gift for his brother who lives in Kyoto Japan. I chose the roasted maple for its beautiful tiger-eye figure and dark honey-molasses color. Approximately 16 coats of hand-rubbed oil finish (a third each, mineral spirits, boiled linseed oil, gloss polyurethane varnish) really make the figure pop. Beautiful instrument.
